My overall cumulative GPA, which is a 3.834. I feel proud about this because I think it is a good representation of my high school career. It shows that I work hard to maintain a high GPA while still being involved in other aspects of school. Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to pursue? CAPP Communications. Although this class was a public speaking class, it allowed me to practice many skills that will be relevant in my future. It also confirmed that I want to follow in my dad’s footsteps for a career. What advice do you have for those just starting their high school career? I would advise upcoming high school students to not be nervous for high school; everyone can do it as long as you stay organized and ask for help when you need it. There are many people willing to help you. What are your plans after high school? I plan to attend NWTC to get a construction management degree. What would you like to be doing10 years from now? I plan to be operating Jim Reif Builders, which happens to be my dad’s business. I hope to not only manage the business, but also expand it. I have been involved in student government, Power of Positive Students freshmen mentoring, National Honor Society, Hope Squad, Soundwave, Music Theater, Tannery Stars 4-H Club, Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council, Mishicot Floral Business, National FFA Organization and Mishicot FFA Trapshooting Team. What is one academic accomplishment about which you feel particularly good? Maintaining a high GPA of a 3.958. I am proud of this achievement because living and working on a dairy farm plus being involved in many extracurricular activities has taken up lots of free time that I have. Even with all of my commitments, I have learned to balance my life to keep my grades high. Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to pursue? The extracurricular activity that has influenced my career choice was the National FFA Organization, along with the many agriculture classes I have taken throughout my high school career. These classes have increased my knowledge about agriculture, which makes me want to teach others so I am able to expand other people’s knowledge. Also, FFA has been a big part of my life since I joined in seventh grade, making an agriculture education career more intriguing. The one person who has a part in both of these areas and has influenced me a lot is my teacher and FFA adviser, Jamie Propson. Mrs. Propson has shown deep passion for agriculture and helping others that I hope to be able to inspire students the way she has inspired me. What advice do you have for those just starting their high school career? Find what your niche is in high school. Freshman year is all about trying new things and exploring. Each year you should narrow down what you are involved in and what classes you are taking so you are able to gain more knowledge about what you would like to do in your future. What are your plans after high school? To attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and major in agriculture education. I am also planning on running to be a state FFA officer this summer. What would you like to be doing 10 years from now? I would like to be in a high school teaching agriculture education and making the agriculture and FFA program the best that it can be. I would love to be such a passionate teacher that students are able to learn from and be an FFA adviser that pushes their students to their fullest potential, making them the best leader they can be. Crystal balances the joys and discomforts of working on her family dairy farm with being an honors student and active community member. Student Government started a Teacher of the Month program to celebrate the incredible and rock stars educators we have at Mishicot High School. The teacher is selected by the student body. The Teacher of the Month for September was Mrs. Barkhaus. The Teacher of the Month for October was Mrs. Sand. Each of these fabulous teachers have gone above and beyond for their students. Being able to maintain a high GPA while taking many college-level courses. I have continually pushed myself to work harder and harder to keep my GPA high while taking the harder classes I have. Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to pursue? All of the agriculture classes I have taken in high school have pushed me to look more into the environmental engineering field that I plan to study in. I have become more interested in the environment and what work can be done with it, and I've always known I wanted to do some form of engineering.

Mishicot senior Eliza Griffey plans to be a pharmacist - Stellar Students Name: Eliza Griffey Parents: Jeff and Heidi Griffey School: Mishicot High School Year: Senior What extracurricular activities have you been involved with during high school? FFA, National Honor Society, POPS Freshman Mentor Program, Fall Musical, High School Musical Theater Student Production Team What is one academic accomplishment about which you feel particularly good about? Maintaining a 3.964 cumulative GPA while taking a rigorous course load. Throughout high school, I have always strived to challenge myself by taking higher-level classes like AP World History, Honors English and Pre-Calc. I am proud that through the challenge of each of these classes I have still been able to maintain such a high GPA. Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to pursue? Chemistry. I took chemistry my junior year of high school and was fascinated by the different ways chemicals could work together. Prior to taking chemistry, I had already considered a career as a pharmacist. However, taking chemistry had a large effect on solidifying my decision.

Crystal Anhalt was selected as one of the 15 seniors from across Wisconsin to serve on the Wisconsin Agricultural Youth Council. This council engages young people with the state government and the Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection. She will strive to highlight ag career opportunities with her peers, act as an advocate between farmers and their communities, and engage in policy alignment as she networks with others in agriculture from across Wisconsin.

WIAA state girls basketball: Mishicot holds off Mineral Point to win Division 4 title LA CROSSE – The screams of joy could be heard throughout the La Crosse Center on Friday night. Call it years of pent-up excitement for the Mishicot girls basketball team coming to a dream ending after the Indians secured the school's first-ever team state championship, defeating Mineral Point 70-66 in the WIAA Division 4 championship. Mishicot's Gavin Junk aims to be a technical education teacher | Stellar Students What extracurricular activities have you been involved with during high school? Future Farmers of America, tutoring, baseball, football, wrestling, student government, musical, tractor restoration What is one academic accomplishment about which you feel particularly good about? Being able to maintain a good GPA while taking college-level courses, working and playing sports. I have taken numerous college-level courses and am able to prepare myself for future college classes and being ahead of the game. Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to pursue? Tutoring has influenced me the most because I really like helping students who are struggling and I am able to see them grow throughout the years. I have always liked working with other students and teaching is something that I can do every day and I really like the technology education field. What advice do you have for those just starting their high school career? Work hard and don't procrastinate, because it is really hard to catch up. Freshman year, I didn't try that hard and I dug myself a hole and I had to work extra hard to get my GPA back up. Balance school work, but live in the moment with no regrets. Before you know it, high school is over and there are no do-overs. What are your plans after high school? Going to UW-Stout and becoming a technical education teacher. What would you like to be doing 10 years from now? I would like to be teaching technical education at a high school and helping students reach their full potential. Mishicot's Samantha Anhalt plans career in environmental engineering | Stellar Students What extracurricular activities have you been involved with during high school? National FFA organization, fall and winter varsity dance team, National Honor Society, student government/class officer, choir/music theater program, Power of Positive Students freshman mentoring, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, JV softball during freshman/sophomore year, track and field during junior/senior year What is one academic accomplishment about which you feel particularly good? My 4.0 GPA. Throughout high school, I have worked hard and dedicated myself to my education to maintain my high GPA. I have always strived to be the best student I can be in a range of college-level and hands-on courses. Each of the three Advanced Placement and six college-credit courses I have taken in high school have challenged me academically and shaped me into the well-rounded student I am today. Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to pursue? The National FFA organization. This leadership organization with strong roots in agriculture has influenced me to pursue a career in an agriculture-related field. Specifically, I am planning to pursue a career in environmental engineering. The agriculture classes I have taken with Jamie Propson have developed my strong passions for horticulture, natural resources and the environment. Through the hands-on activities in class, such as working in the school greenhouse, and through my supervised agricultural experiences of working at Wilfert Farms and my FFA chapter’s floral business, I have gained valuable experience that will aid me in my future career. What advice do you have for those just starting their high school career? Explore a variety of courses. I believe it is important for students to take advantage of the courses their high school offers that will prepare them for a future career/education, but that they also enjoy participating in. Students should try not to be afraid to take a class that may be slightly out of their comfort zone because it is most likely that they will grow as a person from it and gain a new perspective. What are your plans after high school? Pursuing a degree in environmental engineering. As for where I will be receiving my education, I have been accepted into the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but I am not yet committed. I am still waiting to hear back from Cornell University in New York, as their regular admission decisions are not released until early April. At either of these amazing universities, I am looking forward to expanding my engineering knowledge as well as participating in service organizations to give back to my new community. What would you like to be doing 10 years from now? I would like to be employed at an engineering firm designing systems to reduce the levels of pollution in waterways and improving systems that are used to produce clean drinking water. I want to be making a positive impact on the world so generations to come are able to use and enjoy the earth’s natural resources. In addition to my career, I would like to be volunteering in the community I settle down in because of the high value I have for developing communities and helping those in need. Mishicot's Abigail Garceau to follow in mother's footsteps to become a teacher | Stellar Students What extracurricular activities have you been involved with during high school? Basketball, softball, volleyball, student government, marching band, pep band, School to Work: Elementary Education, Junior Leadership of Manitowoc County What is one academic accomplishment about which you feel particularly good about? Being able to maintain a heavy course load while participating in sports and clubs year round. I chose a heavy course load to prepare for college, and being able to maintain a good GPA, and this has helped me prepare for my academics at the next level. Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to pursue? I have always known I wanted to follow my mother’s footsteps and be a teacher, but taking the class School to Work: Elementary Education made me fall in love with teaching even more, and being able to mentor the students made me know for sure this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. What advice do you have for those just starting their high school career? Don’t take anything for granted and take all the memories in. High school flies by, so surround yourself with the right people, take your academics seriously and have fun — because the time flies by, and it’ll be the best four years of your life. What are your plans after high school? I plan to pursue a degree in elementary education at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, while playing softball at the university. What would you like to be doing 10 years from now? I hope to be teaching at an elementary school close to home, hopefully being able to coach a youth sports team and trying to start a family of my own.

Joseph Desotelle, Mishicot senior, plans career in Environmental Science | Stellar Students What extracurricular activities have you been involved with during high school? Wrestling, football, baseball, Youth Apprenticeship What is one academic accomplishment about which you feel particularly good about? Passing the AP (advanced placement) test for AP Government my junior year. I am proud of this because it was my first AP test and class that I took and it was during the shutdown, so the method for taking the test was much different than in previous years. Joseph Desotelle Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to pursue? The extracurricular activity that influenced my decision on what career to pursue was my Youth Apprenticeship at Manitowoc Public Utilities. I have learned a lot of aspects and parts of what Water Resource Management is. This really helped steer me in the direction of pursuing a career in environmental science. What advice do you have for those just starting their high school career? Take advantage of college-level classes and the Youth Apprenticeship program. Mishicot offers many different college credit classes that can save a lot of money in the long run. Youth Apprenticeship is a great way to gain work experience as well as life skills that will help you develop. What are your plans after high school? I plan to attend a four-year college and get a degree in environmental science. What would you like to be doing 10 years from now? I am hoping to have a steady and reliable job in the environmental science field. I would like to be working somewhere in Wisconsin as well. Not only challenging myself to take college courses, but also succeeding in these courses. I feel this is very important, because it prepares me for college and puts me ahead of the ball in terms of the amount of classes I will need to take in college. Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to pursue? The shop classes have influenced my decision on planning to become a tech ed teacher in the future. What advice do you have for those just starting their high school career? Advice that I give to students just starting high school is that everything matters. You need to give full effort in everything you do, whether it be an extracurricular activity or school work. What are your plans after high school? I plan to attend a four-year college to become a technical education teacher. What would you like to be doing 10 years from now?
