High School Virtual Letter

September 26, 2021

Dear Families

I regret to inform you that the School District of Mishicot will be transitioning the high school to virtual instruction at the recommendation of the Manitowoc County Health Department. On Friday, September 24, the high school had 28.5% of the student body out ill, with a new high of 16 individuals testing positive for COVID-19.  This transition affects ONLY the high school and not OHS or the middle school who will both continue with in-person learning.  With this large increase of positive cases, please treat your child as a close contact. Given the large number of positive cases at the high school, we will not be reaching out individually to close contacts due to it affecting all areas of the high school.

The District has planned for this scenario and is ready to make this transition. As of this time, it is our plan to return to face-to-face instruction on Monday, October 4, 2021. Other factors, including the number of new positive COVID-19 cases and the number of close contacts will influence the District’s decision to reopen on October 4 or to extend virtual instruction.  Additional details on learning schedules will be forwarded to you tomorrow. All extracurricular events during this time are canceled.

The schedule for the high school is as follows:

High School ONLY

  • Monday, September 27: No School
  • Tuesday, September 28:  Virtual instruction begins
  • Monday, October 4:  Tentative date for return to face to face instruction

While these changes are necessary to protect our students and staff during this time of high community spread, we also understand how hard it is for families to make alternative arrangements on short notice.  Closing our schools is not a decision that is taken lightly.  As community spread of the virus affects our ability to provide in-person instruction at our schools, I ask that you consider getting yourself and your eligible students vaccinated as well as keep ill students home from school.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we move forward,

 Paul J. Orlich Ph.D.

Superintendent
