Elementary Music News

The elementary music students started the year by learning this year’s school song, “Let’s Work Together,” which coincides with our school theme: “One School, One Team.” They’ve also learned

“America, the Beautiful” and “The Star-Spangled Banner.” In October, we will focus on the theme songs for the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard as we prepare for the Veteran’s Day assembly.

We will also soon be preparing songs for the upcoming holiday music programs. The theme for this year’s holiday programs will be “Jingle Bell Jukebox -The Flip Side” featuring popular holiday hit songs, set in the 1950s. The holiday concerts will take place on Thursday, December 16: Grades K-2 at 1:00 pm; and Grades 3-5 at 6:30 pm.

In addition, the students have been enjoying playing the Orff mallet percussion instruments and drums, as well as Solfa pitch-matching and lots of other fun activities which reinforce the concept areas of beat, rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expressive qualities.

Looking ahead, the date for the spring music program is Thursday, April 21 (1:00 pm - Gr. 3-5; 6:30 pm - Gr. K-2) This year’s spring program will include a talent show.
