Goals for 2011 Season
Mishicot Baseball will:
1.      Have all athletes commit to the good of the team
2.      Represent the Mishicot High School and the community of Mishicot with pride, class, and hard work
3.      Get better every day in practice
4.      Have all athletes make the honor roll
5.      Win the Olympian Conference Championship

The How:
  •  Attend all team functions and practices.
  •  Follow rules and expectations set forth by Mishicot High School and the baseball coaching staff.
  •  Accept that as a player I have yet to reach my potential individually or as a teammate, and therefore I must push myself to the limit to improve.
  • Accept that as a player it is important to play as hard as I possibly can and I will strive to do so in daily practice and games.

Decisions
When making decisions that may affect an athlete’s participation in the baseball program, our program encourages him to follow these guidelines:
  1. Family 2. Personal Morals and Beliefs 3. Education/School   4. Team        5. Individual

Varsity Letter
To receive a varsity letter, a player will have to finish the season in good standing and must have played 15 varsity innings.

Dress Code – Practices
1.      Baseball Hat or Winter Cap
2.      Cleats (outdoor) / Athletic Shoes (indoor)
3.      Baseball Glove
4.      Sweatpants or baseball pants (unless otherwise noted)
5.      Athletic Support/Jock Strap

Students who do not follow the dress code will have additional conditioning after practice. It is important to have all of the necessary equipment to practice properly.

Playing Time
If there is a question in regards to playing time, it is the responsibility of the player to speak with the coach about this concern. Communication is part of the maturation process. Parents must honor the unique relationship that develops between the coach and players.

Playing time is not written in stone and may change due to a change in attitude or increase skill level due to practice and hard work.

Discipline Policy
1.      Attendance –
  •  In order to participate in practice or play in a game, your child must be present the ENTIRE day of school. If an appointment is scheduled (doctor, dentist, driving, etc.), the student must bring in signed and dated documentation from the place and hand in to participate that day.
  •  If the absence is excused a player will sit a half game maximum. If a special situation arises, a player must make arrangements with his coach ahead of time. To be a member of the team, a player must make a time commitment.
  • An unexcused absence will result in a one-game suspension.
  •  Two unexcused absences will result in a three-game suspension.
  •  Three unexcused absences will result in a season suspension.
(An unexcused absence is considered not showing up for practice, OR not communicating with the coaches by handing in a signed note.)
2.      Behavior
A. Office Referrals
  • One office referral will result in a one game suspension.
  • Two office referrals (accumulated) will result in a two game suspension.
  •  Three office referrals requires a conference between parent, administration, player and coaching staff to determine the next course of action.
B. Detentions
  • Any detention earned will result in extra conditioning after practice.
C. Athletic Code
  •  Violations will follow set policies and school procedures.
D. Academics
  •  Violations will follow set policies and school procedures.

Mishicot Baseball Team Rules

1.      We, the coaches, expect maximum effort on the field and in the classroom.
2.      We expect disciplined behavior from all players at all times.
3.      We expect every player to put academics first, baseball second. We will be as flexible as we can to allow a player to be excused from practice time so he can get extra help. This should be done from 3:05 – 4:00 p.m. It will be a player’s responsibility to arrange this ahead of time (If a player is coming to practice late due to getting extra help, a pass from the helping teacher will be required.)
4.      We will not tolerate foul or abusive language, arguing with umpires, arguing with opposing players/fans, or any behavior that is considered unsportsmanlike.
5.      Throwing a helmet, a bat, or any other piece of equipment will result in an immediate benching with the possibility of losing additional playing time.
6.      We expect mature locker room behavior and a clean locker room.
7.      All players will ride the bus to and from all away games. This is a necessary component in promoting a team atmosphere. It also provides an opportunity for the team to discuss the day’s performance and better prepare for the next game.
8.      We expect mature bus behavior. When riding to a game you should mentally prepare yourself for that day’s work. On the return trip, you should review your performance and focus on the positive points and areas of possible improvement. (We will also discuss the game as a team on the ride home).
9.      We expect everyone to help with the equipment.
10. We will not put up with anyone that puts himself in front of the team. We expect everyone to put the team first, himself second.
11. We expect every player to be a good teammate!! This means getting along with everyone on the team and supporting them when the TEAM is playing a game. Any form of belittlement of another player on the team is unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action.
12. We expect all players to come to the coaches first if he has a problem or question. If a player has a concern with anything during a practice or a game, please approach the coach at an appropriate time and in a mature manner for a possible explanation. Do not ask someone else who probably does not have an accurate answer for you.
13. We expect every player to be fully prepared for each day of practice and for all games. If you forget any part of your uniform or equipment, you will not play that day.
14. No cleats are to be worn inside of the school buildings.
15. No eating sunflower seeds inside the school buildings.
